Providing Handmade Hugs to Children in Need
Binky Patrol is a national nonprofit 100% volunteer organization with no paid staff. We provide new, soft, handmade, washable blankets to children in need from newborn to 18 years of age. The North Texas chapter distributes the blankets every month to local children and hospitals, and we can’t do that without the help of many local volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please get in touch with us.
Each of our handmade blankets carries both a label and a special poem to the recipient child. See our poem below.

Why the Name “Binky” Patrol?
Why the Name “Binky” Patrol?
When founder Susan Finch had an art gallery in Laguna Beach, she noticed a quiet homeless man that would regularly walk up and down Forest Avenue with a blanket around him because it was chilly. When she asked another gallery owner the man’s name, they replied in a disrespectful tone, “Oh, we call him ‘Binky’ because of the blanket on his head.”
Finch made a point of getting to know this man with the sweet smile and kind eyes, and learned that his name was Shandor. They became friends. When Binky Patrol was created, first she drew the picture of the kids holding hands and blankets–the name just came out when she looked at the drawing. Shandor was touched that she named it because of him.
One day after a few weeks, he stopped her on the street after closing and asked, “How are the babies?” She smiled and replied, “They are getting more binkies every day!” At this news, Shandor smiled and took out the only dollar in his otherwise empty wallet. He handed it to Susan Finch and said, “Here, this is for the babies, it’s extra today.”
This is the true spirit of Binky Patrol.

We would love for you to join us at one of our meetings. Binky Patrol welcomes those needing community service
hours for scouting, churches, court-ordered hours, and schools. Please contact us for details.
We are 100% volunteer, so we are 100% dependent on donations, but usually, we have some simple
blanket kits available to help you get started!
